Will My Acid Reflux go away?

Today I went to the dentist and they said I had Acid Reflux:( Will It go away? My dad Had Acid Reflux when he was 27. The Dentist said i should stay away from sourer candy and soft drinks like coke, pepsi, dr.peppers they said i could drink diet coke and think like that they also said it was acid erosion do yu think it might go away? i have special meds and tooth paste. please HELP!!!
