New Sore on the left side of my tongue?

A small round sore appeared on the left rear side of my tongue a week ago about the size of a small pea. It has a yellowish tint to it and has a burning sensation to it that is driving me crazy because it goes from my tongue to my throat. I have never had a canker sore or any oral issues besides fillings but I have been a long time smokeless tobacco user and am wonder if that has caught up to me. I cant get into the Dentist for 3 weeks should I wait or go get it checked out sooner?
