I have a horrible tooth pain how can i stop it from throbbing?

i have a tooth that broke off and now its only the root that is there. i cant go to the dentist because i am out of town and i cant stand the pain anymore. does anyone have any home remedies they can give me so i can be painless at least until i get back home
